The Upper Messinian to Lower Pliocene succession of the Trave section (M. Conero, Marche, Central Adriatic Sea). Note the more resistant calcarenitic body (the "Trave") representing the topmost deposit of the local Lago Mare succession. The transition to Lower Pliocene turbiditic sandstone and mudstones is marked by a reddish, strongly bioturbated and more cemented horizon. A detailed study of this section is currently being carried out within the Italian ME.LA project.
